One afternoon in 2004.

Enjoying the sun on a calm beach and on a quiet afternoon in Hong Kong, I take advantage to play with those round and textured seeds that shyly fall from the trees onto the beach and are remorselessly collected by an old man who is paid to gather them like rubbish and throw them away quicker than the time they take to fall.

Path of Sand is in fact is a path of seeds thus forming a path of sand. It is a totally improvised and completely ephemeral intervention, since the time it took to create it was almost the same as the duration of its life.

With these coffee-coloured seeds, which have almost the same shade as the sand, on a clear beach with everything strange, different from the sand itself, the idea was to obtain a visual effect that would emphasize the colors of both elements, the contrast between them. Also I looked for a link which would lead to a kind of invitation, from the beach to the sea. ...

Playing with the sand and the seeds, the space and the impression of space, also playing with Lola, a little girl of five years old, who played the game with me of gathering seeds.

This intervention did not last long, the old man could not wait any longer and asked for the tenth time if he could already gather the beautiful and textureds seeds that littered the beach and decorated the Path of Sand.
