Under Construction

public intervention, painting, sculpture, photography, mixed-media, installation ?

If Under Construction reintroduces the trolley which has already been used in art since the 60’s to address today’s consumer society which we know for its qualities of ‘carrier’. The trolley here, a central element of the work, not only tries to carry the weight of today’s societies which are crowded and overly consumerist, but also a bundle of bamboo.

Societies today are full of contradictions and contrasts, in one way or another they seek (a way of achieving) balance, which day by day is seriously affected by our way of living. However this balance is possible largely if man establishes a more human relationship with nature and the environment.

A symbol of wisdom and strength in Chinese culture, bamboo is pushed in a trolley through the busiest and most consumerist areas of Hong Kong, making us reflect on the values which are in constant change in ‘modern’ society.

Under Construction is not a denunciation, it is an allegory of hope, but it is also a call to resist, to alert humanity which is sometimes deficient.
